Advanced Video Surveillance and Access Control Solution for the Federal University of Goiás

The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) is one of the largest public higher education institutions in Brazil. Managing vehicle access and providing physical and property security for students and staff were key challenges for UFG.
Challenges
UFG needed to manage campus access for student and staff vehicles. It was also required to apply facial recognition, with the creation of block/allow watch lists, and to monitor strategic areas. The university needed a system that could control approximately 36,000 students/employees each day and monitor five square kilometers of sensitive areas. It was also necessary to prevent theft and robbery incidents and provide quick information for physical security decisions. Identifying criminals in the event of a robbery or theft on the campus was equally critical.

Solution
Modern school security solutions encompass a variety of technologies and strategies to protect educational environments. From school alarm systems to integrated security systems for schools, these solutions are designed to address the unique challenges faced by educational institutions.
AxxonSoft provided UFG with an integrated school security solution based on Axxon One VMS and Axxon PSIM. The school security cameras are managed through the Axxon One interface, enabling seamless monitoring of the entire university campus. Axxon PSIM integrates with Control ID’s access control system that registers and manages access of students and staff.
The solution uses facial recognition and LPR License Plate Recognition, with block/allow watch lists registered in the AxxonNet cloud service that enables centralized watch list management. The Control ID access control system is integrated at the database level, providing real-time access control and monitoring of people’s presence in strategic areas. Dell servers and NVIDIA GPUs for workstations are used to meet the system processing and storage requirements.
Results and Benefits
Ensuring school security is paramount for any educational institution. The implementation of robust school security systems at the Federal University of Goiás significantly reduced the risks of theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access, creating a safer environment for both students and staff.
The integration of video surveillance with the Control ID access control system and the use of facial recognition and license plate recognition provide UFG with a seamless and effective solution for managing vehicle access and ensuring the physical and property security of the university’s students and employees. AxxonSoft’s support from the design phase of the project to the technical certification of security personnel was instrumental in achieving the project’s goals. The system is currently in full operation, and UFG plans to expand it to approximately 2,000 school video surveillance cameras.
